Artificial Disc Replacement Health Center
Artificial disc replacement surgery involves replacing a painful disc with an artificial disc. Artificial disc surgery may be performed on the lower back (lumbar spine) or the neck (cervical spine). Artificial discs are designed with the goal of mimicking the form and function of the spine's natural disc.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the PRODISC(R)-L for use in the lumbar spine. In the cervical spine, a number of artificial discs have been approved, including the Mobi-C(R) (which is the only product approved for both one and two levels), the PRESTIGE(R), the ProDiscTM-C, the BRYAN(R), the SECURE(R)-C, and the PCM(R).
